As we approach another December season, we look forward to welcoming our members, guests and friends back to the golf club. For those looking to enjoy the golf course the following events you will need to diarise.
• December 15th – Grand Comoros Better Ball Bonus Bogey
• December 18th – Animal Rescue Golf Day
• December 22nd – Maxwell Members Remembrance Trophy
• December 25th – Club and Course Closed
• December 30th – Hat & Hound
• January 7th & 8th – The Pam Golding Annual. St Francis Bay GC v St Francis Links
As we all know the Eastern Cape is experiencing one of the worst droughts in its history with combined dam levels at around 14%. As we expect a large influx of holiday makers to come to the Kouga region over December the demand for water will increase and we urge all our members and guests to be water wise during their stay in St Francis Bay, we do not want to run out of water during the festive season. Our showers remain open but we ask the you do not take long showers after golf and only use them if necessary. Please bring your own towel if you are going to shower.
Men’s Club Championships
The Club Championships were held over the weekend of the 04th and 05th December. The weather looked to threaten the party however it held out for two days and allowed for some great golf to be played.
The lowest 18-hole gross score was 73 on Saturday by Johan Potas and on Sunday by Bazil Coenraad and the lowest 18-hole net score was 66 by our Captain Viv Jones on Sunday.
Your Club Champions in their Divisions were:
C Division: Champion – Chris Lever – 38 pts
B Division: Champion – Lindsay Pearson – 84 & 81 = 165 gross
Best Net – Michael Pearton – 74 & 67 = 141 net
A Division: Champion – Johan Potas – 73 & 77 = 150 gross
Best Net – Ivan Kamte – 72 & 74 = 146 net
Well done to our 2021 Club Champions Johan Potas and Heather Kruger who was the Ladies Champion.
Pace of Play – As we go into season and the golf course gets busy, we ask that all golfers try as best as possible to keep up with the following pace of play guide line:
• 38 minutes through 3 holes
• 1 hour 21 minutes through 6 holes
• 2 hours 2 minutes through 9 holes
• 15 minutes halfway stop
• 2 hours 54 minutes through 12 holes
• 3 hours 36 minutes through 15 holes
• 4 hours 15 total time through 18 holes
Please note the we have bunker rakes back in. That means that the bunkers are playing as normal, there is no longer any placing in the bunkers. We ask all members to rake the bunkers after been in one to make it fair for all golfers. If you are uncomfortable to use the rake please smooth out with your club and foot or we have fold up rakes in the Pro Shop you can purchase to take in your bag.
Please note what the world handicap system says about acceptable scores that can be entered:
The World Handicap System (WHS) aims to provide golfers with plenty of opportunity to submit scores for handicap purposes, encouraging golfers to play more often and ensuring their Handicap Index is reflective of their demonstrated ability.
A score is acceptable for handicap purposes, and must be entered on the HNA system, if the round has been played under the following conditions:
• In an authorised format of play (Rule 2.1a) over the minimum number of holes required for either a 9-hole or an 18-hole score to be acceptable (Rule 2.2).
• In the company of at least one other person, who must also act as a marker.
• By the Rules of Golf (Rule 2.1b).
On a golf course with a current Course Rating and Slope Rating, where length and normal playing difficulty is maintained at a consistent level.
Therefore, if you play a round alone then you are not allowed to enter a score for that round.
We look forward to welcoming you all over December and ask that you all stay safe and follow all covid protocols and regulations and encourage those who haven’t et been vaccinated to get vaccinated.
From the Chairman……
Although the spectre of Covid still hovers around us, especially with the emergence of the new Omricon variant, we trust that all of us will still be able to enjoy a much-needed and deserved holiday and festive season with friends and family.
While we look forward to welcoming old friends and visitors alike to our popular club and while the fun and festivity at this time of year is centred around gatherings and socializing, we trust that everyone will be cognizant of the inherent risks and responsibilities, along with due consideration for all those around us in the course of interaction and contact.
Our course is in fine condition and our sincere thanks must be expressed to our green-keeping team as they week after week present us with a superb golfing experience. Although we have been blessed with a fair amount of rain along the coastal regions which has contributed to the course condition, our village is under severe pressure due to water restrictions and we ask all to please use water sparingly.
Many thanks to our committee, members, management and staff for their support and dedication during the year which has so quickly gone by……our club has enjoyed a good year beyond limited and uncertain expectations……. which is a result of the valuable and much appreciated contributions of the afore-mentioned.
Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year and enjoy the summer holidays.
From the Captain
This year’s Calimari Classic was again a resounding success adding much welcome monies to the club coffers. Thanks must go to Gordon, Jan and their team for presenting the course in top quality condition resulting in a fantastic tournament and bringing nothing but compliments from all the visiting golfers.
Thanks also to my Calimari Sub Committee for their tireless efforts and everyone who helped out at registration, selling raffle tickets, checking score cards and the million and one other tasks taken on behind the scenes, the tournament would not run without your efforts, very many thanks👏👏.
As usual we entered three teams into The Kelly Fourseomes where, at the end of the first days play, all were sitting in the top section of their respective leagues with hopes of pushing on to a winning spot. Unfortunately the second day proved to be more challenging and although no first places were had, we were very consistent with each team scoring 10 points and finishing in 4th. place in their respective leagues.
Thanks to all who took part for doing their bit both on and off the course making it a most enjoyable weekend.
The Joker Draws continue, but due to various reasons the fortnightly draws have become a bit more spasmodic but are now getting back on an even keel.
The current pot stands at over R12000 and the next draw is scheduled for Friday 26th. November. With half the pot up for grabs and costing only R10 a go, it will be a nice early Christmas present for someone should they pick the Joker at the coming draw🤗.
With the festive season fast approaching may I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry Christmas (Geseede Kersfees / Nadolig Llowen) and a happy and also importantly a healthy New Year (Gelukkige Nuwe Jaar / Blwyddyn Newydd Dda).
Braai Dankie / Diolch Yn Fawr Iawr

What a great event to be part of! We thank all our ladies who participated in the Calamari Classic as well as the ladies who assisted with registration and capturing of results. I am very grateful for the assistance and support I receive from the lady members; we are a small harmonious group who enjoy socializing and playing golf together.
A big thank you must go to my Committee; the Main Executive Committee; Manager Justin, Mickey and Anzet; and our caterers Suzette and her team for their dedication towards the smooth running of our Club. Thanks to Gordon, Jan and their team for ensuring that we play on a top class course. Many accolades have been received about our golf course.
Last but not least I would like to thank Heilie Uys, our local club photographer, who is always ready and available to capture memorable events. All credit goes to her for compiling and editing the Ladies Section of the Kiewiet.

Quote of the Month
“If it goes right, it’s a slice. If it goes left, it’s a hook. If it goes straight, it’s a miracle.” – Unknown.
